Portsmouth is a city that is famous for many things; regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era, renowned writer Charles Dickens was born in Landport, being best known for his creation of fictional characters including Oliver Twist. Another notable mark is their resident football clubs, ‘City of Portsmouth’ and ‘Portsmouth Football Club’, or ‘Pompey’ which the club, and the city itself, was affectionately nicknamed.
