Well Met, the conference office of Leeds Beckett University, will host the National Union of Students (NUS) flagship training event Lead and Change, North Conference at the Rose Bowl city campus (30th July – 1st August 2019).
Each year Students’ Unions across the country elect full-time officers to help lead their Student Unions and ensure that students have a voice during their time studying. The NUS’ Lead and Change conference is a training event where newly elected and re-elected Officers can network with their peers, learn about the challenges facing the sector and develop their leadership capabilities over the three-day conference.
The three-day event is specifically for first-year officers new to the role and covers a wide range of topics such as essential leadership skills, effective and inclusive coaching skills. New officers will be equipped to create an effective and positive change in role in their respective student unions.
Clare Vidler, Conference Manager at Well Met, said: “The Lead & Change North Conference makes a welcome return to the Rose Bowl city campus. Leeds Beckett University Students’ Union is one of over 500 students’ Unions who are affiliated to the NUS to provide the best support for students in the UK, and as such, Well Met is extremely proud to host this important event in the NUS calendar for the third time.”
Over 200 first-year student officers, returning second-year officers, tutors, colleagues and facilitators are expected to attend the event which has been running for almost 40 years. It’s a celebration of Student Union elected officers and provides them with the opportunity to network, develop their own leadership skills and discuss how they can collaborate to ensure the interests of students across the UK are represented by a collective passionate about supporting their rights and interests.
Martin Occleston, Learning and Development Consultant, said: “We’re delighted to return to the Rose Bowl city campus and the Well Met team. The scale of this event means we require several different spaces – tutor rooms, networking areas, lecture theatres for our opening and closing plenaries – the Rose Bowl has all of that contained within the one building. It also provides a great eating space for all our delegates to congregate.
“The central location and proximity to Leeds train station make travel straight forward for our officers arriving from all over the UK. As Leeds Beckett Students’ Union is one of over 500 contributing Students’ Unions, the university also make great hosts for this important event.”
