Event Industry Group to Launch Free Sustainability Measurement App

A group of major event brands, led by ICE (In-house Corporate Events), is calling for event industry input into the continued development of an event sustainability measurement tool that will be free of charge and applicable for every event. The group includes ICE, Maritz Global Events, DPRG, Cvent, ACC Liverpool and Encore, each of whom have helped fund the ‘BETA’ version of the web app. The launch of the BETA version, simply named ‘SAM’, will enable wider input from businesses throughout the events industry, in order to fulfil the group’s ambitions to make the tool as credible, universal and easy to use as humanly possible. Already, the tool will measure the carbon output on; accommodation, food, travel, room usage, and comms, with a unique feature that talks to delegates through the app, in order to track their travel which then feeds back into the event carbon measurement. The outreach programme will also include feedback from a global network of in-house corporate event organisers brought together through the ICE community. “One of the issues that the web app will immediately combat is the need to provide credible data, regardless of the size of the event,” commented Dale Parmenter, DRPG. “This outreach programme is critical to its development, as it’s important that the thinking behind the technology represents every kind of event, from brand activations to global conferences. It means that the technology will be universal, as well as free of charge. At DRPG we have a more in-depth tool to measure the four pillars of sustainability and we feel that SAM will allow planners to begin addressing their own sustainability goals by measuring their event’s carbon output.” At its heart, SAM will be a visual carbon measurement tool that is both simple and free to use. Event organisers will quickly be able to input event data, with delegates adding travel details, resulting in a carbon measurement for the organiser to monitor year on year. This score can be added to post event reports to show stakeholders the event departments that are ahead of the game in sustainable events. The data will also be attributed on an event-by-event basis.     Zero waste stand

    The world’s first zero waste, reusable exhibition stand made from event waste carpet will make its global debut at The Meetings Show.

    Thanks to a collaboration between creator Paradigm and partners isla, The Bulb, Informa and The Meetings Show, a prototype of the innovative reusable zero waste stand will be revealed to the world’s meetings and events community exclusively at the show (stand A41).

    The walls and floor of the truly circular and sustainable stand are built out of Reform, a ‘game-changing’ recycled plastic tile made from old exhibition carpet, with the flooring made using post-consumer ocean plastic fabricated using renewable electricity in the UK. The substructure of the stand is built out of repurposed metal from disused shell scheme, meaning the structure of the stand is made from 100% post-consumer materials.

    Sustainable curious hosted buyers will also be able to receive sustainability support for their events at a drop-in clinic with isla at The Hosted Buyer Insight Forum on 18 June.

    Delegate downtime

    It’s not all work and no play. As always, there will be countless networking events taking place throughout the show and London, from the official welcome reception for hosted buyers, to on-stand drinks and more, providing the opportunity to catch up with industry peers and friends and make new connections.

    Conference Sheffield, Venues of Excellence, Spanish Tourist Office and Delegate Wranglers, are among the exhibitors hosting drinks on their stands, while MESA has teamed up with SongDivision for an immersive half hour of team building and rock.

    Lime Venue Portfolio will arrive at this year’s edition of The Meetings Show with a series of partnerships that will support initiatives including a focus on Neurodiversity, as well as hospitality, learning opportunities, insight, and networking across the show week.

    The main theme for the brand’s presence this year will once again underline its aim of 'Betterment’, bringing new intelligence to existing trends within the meetings and events industry, whether it be sustainability through food, event legacy and impact, and now, accessibility and Neurodiversity.

    Later in the week Lime Venue Portfolio will once again join forces with both ExCeL London and The Delegate Wranglers as the three brands provide networking and drinks for buyers, at 4pm on day one of the show.
