America Sqaure selected for Japanese art exhibition

18 March 2009

America Square Conference Centre has been selected by Hanga Ten as the venue for its latest exhibition of contemporary prints by Japanese artists.  Officially announced this week, this is the first in a series of exhibitions planned by Cavendish Conference Venues to take place in the recently opened dedicated conference centre.  Twenty works of art by Japanese artists or foreign artists living and working in Japan are being exhibited in the main foyer and reception space of the venue until June 2009.  Admission is free to all America Square Conference Centre visitors.

Hanga Ten represents over 25 artists, some of whom are internationally well known and are represented in important collections, while others are new talents at the beginning of their careers. One thing they all have in common is the originality and quality of their work, a result of the artistic traditions of Japan and the artists' technical excellence.

Hanga Ten is the only gallery in Europe specialising exclusively in contemporary Japanese prints. These prints are original works of art, not reproductions, and almost all are hand-printed by the artists themselves.  Editions are small and strictly limited.  Printing techniques cover all modern media, and artistic expression ranges from traditional themes to abstract compositions.

Hely Norton, Hanga Ten Gallery Director, says, "America Square provides the perfect backdrop for our exhibits.  The bright airy space and neutral but contemporary décor of the conference centre foyer creates just the right atmosphere for bold modern art, and the lighting is ideal.  We are delighted to feature our works at America Square it's a great opportunity to raise our profile within the conference sector."

Ros de Vekey, Cavendish Conference Venue Business Development Manager says, "The exhibition is a stunning focal point for clients and delegates as they enter the centre.  We are thrilled to have secured the exhibition and following the anticipated success of this first venture we plan to hold exhibitions of this nature on a regular basis."
